Hmph. I'm ready to be well now.

Its been known for a while that the flavanoids in onions could inhibit the growth of cancer, but a new study has shown that the onions that work the best against cancer are the ones that are the most pungent. Somehow I'm not surprised. Descented Garlic doesn't have any of the beneficial health aspects of normal garlic either.

A recent experiment has shown that a mouse grown from a cell which has had all of its junk DNA removed is as healthy and as normal as the Scientists could measure. The reporter was quick to assume this meant that Junk DNA really was junk, but the scientists were not so sure. Since at least one of the theories of Junk DNA that I've heard of have to do with how its a mechanism to control variability in descendants (which wasn't be tested by this experiment), it is, indeed, to early to jump to any rash conclusions.

In a very controversial experiment, biochemists have been testing a drug that is designed to help fight Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome by reducing the emotional imprint of recent traumatic experiences. While I can see many very good psychological uses for such a thing, I can also imagine people really messing themselves up if such a drug was ever widely available. Still, I can only imagine that widespread access to this, and far more powerful, neural tinkering tools are inevitable, as the cost of automatic drug synthesis machiens continues to fall.

There is a group in Atlanta calling themselves the Mad Housers. They build the most affordable housing ever, $350 per unit, and give it away to the homeless.

Hot on the heels of my previous announcement about a possible treatment for osteoporosis, is this new study that shows that Strontium is also good for combatting this bone-wasting process. Mmm. Strontium.

Due to a bug in another program (which locked my D: drive and then crashed) my email program (pegasus) was unable to read its master folder index file when I tried to shut it down to reboot. So, it created a NEW one.

Now all 7000 of my folders, which before were carefully arranged in a heirarchy, are now all in a single flat directory structure. I don't think I lost any data (other than the shape of my heirarchy) but its gonna take DAYS to fix it, if I can even figure out where all of the folder belong...

I slept something like 10 hours, but since I didn't fall asleep until 6:00 am, I didn't get up until 4:00 pm. So, I'm still drinking coffee to wake up. I don't have an appetite yet, but I've gotten some eggs and cheese for breakfast because its been 20 or so hours since I last ate anything, and I'm starting to feel weak in the knees.

Other than the listlessness, the sinus congestion and the somewhat under-the-weather feeling, I don't actually feel all that bad. Its very strange; I never used to have trouble telling when I was ill, because when I was sick I felt awful. Nowadays its not always clear to me, when I don't want to get out of bed, if its because I've got a disease, or if I'm just depressed. Lord knows I don't miss joint aches, intense nausea and vomiting, but I wouldn't mind some sort of flag to indicate when I'm physically ill and not just mentally or emotionally exhausted.
