I've managed to get my office air-conditioner installed, and the temperature in here is dropping as I type. Its already comfortable in here, and soon it should actually be cool.

For my next trick I need to install its twin in the guest bedroom. That will require some lumber though because its almost impossible to find a vertical air-conditioner in this city and when you do its 5 to 6 times the price of its horizontal equivalent. Since the Horizontal model that I bought is for a different sort of window, the mounting hardware that came with it is useless.

I managed to build something that worked using some scrap 2x4 last year, but I used it all up. I may have to visit Reno Depot to pick up a 2x4 and perhaps some plexiglass or plastic panel to replace the cardboard that I used to fill the space above the A/C unit.

I bought a nice horizontal Haier unit last summer -- then my super had all the windows in the building replaced with side-sliding windows. Now the horizontal unit doesn't fit.

I shopped around for a 5000BTU vertical or portable A/C, but found nothing.

So I just mounted the Haier *sideways*.

No doubt this is a Very Bad Idea. But nowhere in the manual or the many warning stickers on the thing does it say "Whatever you do, don't mount sideways!"

Seems to work okay.
