You know, even with the angst and the whinging and the various bits of disaster that are going on in the lives of members of my friends list, it still gives me a boost to read my f-list when I wake up. Somehow connecting with so many good people, even in a virtual way, lifts my spirits.

I'm now in a much better mood than when I awoke, and I'm only 1/2 way through catching-up on LJ.

Well, I've only ever used a MAC for a total of about 4 hours, and that was pre-OS X.

Still, a bit of googling seems to indicate that .dmg files are compressed images, which need to be uncompressed to be able to be used, which is what I think is happening when you open and launch one.

If you want to speed things up, I think you have to copy all of the files out of a .dmg into a normal folder, and see if that helps.

Sorry to be so vague. As I say, I'm not really a MAC person.

Thanks! It worked for 1 (Firefox) but not for another, but it's not a program I use that often.

Kind of sad, I've been using Macs forever and you used a Mac for 4 hours...
