Just lost another friend.

It doesn't rain but it pours. To add to all of the other things that went wrong today, I just got news that an old friend passed away today. Unlike Deniz, who was in the prime of her life, John was somewhere around 80 years old (I don't know his age exactly), and I've known him since the early days of BBSing. He used to go by the handle (IIRC) of Rustypipe.

I don't know anything about the cause of death or anything else at this point. I'll probably be finding out in the next few days. I hadn't seen John since the Christmas party for the investment club we both belong to, and I hadn't any reason to think his health was failing.

He wasn't a pariculary close or dear friend, and he lived a long and very active life, but I'm still very sad to lose someone else.

He died of cancer. I thought his skin cancer was in remission. I'm pretty sure he was in his 90s. I don't think he went by Rustypipe. There was a red-headed older guy in Microcosm who went by that handle. You may have met him.

Yeah, it is a bummer to lose John. He was a kind, cool old dude.

He was still a practising psychiatrist.

It was actually prostate cancer. I also thought it was in remission.

Did he have prostrate cancer as well? Or were the lesions he had removed from his bald spot not cancer?

He went through chemo recently for his second relapse of prostate cancer.

On another note, what was your BBS handle? ( I went by Etrigan, TedTheodoreLogan and of course... XipeTotec) and what BBSes did you frequent?

I went by the handle 'Necron' back then. I was mostly on Walden Commune BBS, but I spent a while on Pyroto Mountain and on another board with an SF name that completely escapes me at the moment...
