Hmmm. I just woke up to find a message in my in-basket from my ISP. I originally signed up with DSL.ca a couple of years ago. Shortly thereafter they were bought out by wiznet.ca, and the transition was a bit rough, but they quickly became competant at what they were doing. Now though, they have just been bought out by magma.ca, which is already a part of Primus, and I don't know what that will lead to.

My current ISP has no bandwidth caps, has no policies against running a network, and allows you to run servers. I certainly hope none of that changes.

I have heard good things about magma.ca quality of service. Not that I can testimony myself, but at least it is not like the others.

What would be the alternatives otherwise ?

Well, there's always that huge, gigantic, monstrous behemoth that rhymes with Hell. Not that I have an opinion or anything.

This is exactly what I said :-)

Sympatico prefers to provide MSN that to provide real service and not hangup when you pretend not using Windows and your line is actually down.

It's a cold day in bell

My ISP (which I actually happen to work for) is municipally owned, so is gonna be around for a long time!

Ah, sweet sweet tbaytel. How I hated them when they started buying up every local little ISP I ever worked at. And how I like them now that they provide DSL.

It always amazes me how Thunder Bay has managed to fight off the intrusion of the behemoth that rhymes with Hell.

We've actually got 4 people from Air, so there's a strong influence in things. There's actually a respectable number of users that still dial in and use Air/Baynet/Microage. The other day, I even ran into someone still using a Foxnet account, so there are still a couple of those aliases left in the system...

Bell's getting ready to move in-- they may start offering local telephone service as early next year, with Shaw in hot VOIP-based pursuit. But TV-Over-DSL is coming as soon as it wends its way through the CRTC, so we may just steal enough customers from Shaw to make up for it...
