Well, THIS took me by surpise. Microsoft is opting not to support Itanium on its coming release of Windows Server 2003 Compute Cluster Edition. Is this a sign that Microsoft is thinking of distancing itself from Intel?

No, it's a sign that Itanium is crap.

They don't mind wallowing in crap at all, that's true, as long as it's profitable. As Itanium is getting slaughtered by AMD64 and is having no leverage at all in the market, where is the money to be made?

Actually Itanium is kinda interesting. You want to see Intel crap? See if you can dig up some info on iAPX432. It'll be hard - they don't want anyone to know ;).

Though now that I think about it, that was interesting, too. Just not good interesting.

Hell, no. It's just a sign that Microsoft can't debug its shit. They must have made the same mistake that they made with Windows95: develop on the existing platform and figure they can port later - but without explaining the second step adequately to the programmers.
