Some time ago I wrote about the Million Dollar Home Page. Today I thought up a way to do something similar, but different enough that its probably worth doing. Requires a bit of pondering on my part as it a) potentially uses HTML that is poorly supported on some browsers and b) requires me to get my hands on some sutiable (ie. that I'm allowed to use) artwork.

The idea is dead simple, but there would probably be some programming required and a bunch of data entry. Still, in the end it might be just 10 or so simple pages. As I said, I shall ponder it further.

I was just reminded by this (warning, noisy link) of a strange thing that happened while helping [livejournal.com profile] taxlady with taxes last week. She handed me a folder of documents to scan in, and at first glance the name on the folder looked like 'Lestat'.

Made me wonder what a Vampire's taxes looked like. What sort of deductions are they allowed. Now (undoubtedly because I have not had enough coffee) I'm thinking that one could do a Barney-Miller-style comedy about a small group of tax accountants who live in a comic-book world, and handle super-hero and villians. Do villians even file taxes? Some might. Most hero's would. Is the batcave deductible? I would assume so...

I had some slightly disturbing, although not terribly unpleasant dreams last night. At least in some parts of the dream I was well aware that I was dreaming but made no move to try and modify the dream, I just went with it. I DID at one point dream that I was daydreaming about ways to handle a slightly obnoxious situation, while silently enduring it instead. I think that's a new one for me. Usually sub-dreams take over my main dreams. This one didn't.

At one point I was in a bar commiserating with someone that I couldn't believe I was already 42 (actually, I won't be for a few months yet), when it seems like just yesterday I was 22. He said that you get used to it by the time you turn 60.

At another point in the dream I was moving in bullet-time. I had jumped off of a 12-foot high parapet down to some asphalt below, making sure to clear a 5-foot wide moat. Half-way down everything slowed to a crawl. It was a case of bend the knees slightly to absorb the shock, wait, wait, wait, feel the pavement touch the soles of my feet, wait, feel my knees slowly start to bend to take the weight, wait some more, start resisting the impact, wait, start taking a step forward to contain the forward momentum, wait, sloooowly take a step then another, slowly come out of bullet time. Makes me think it would be a real pain to be the flash if that's the way you had to deal with everyday living. (As an aside the Marvel character Quicksilver once mentioned that this is how he always percieves the world, and he spends most of his time being intensely bored.)

So, don't know that there were any profound internal revelations in all that, but I find it interesting that suddenly I'm remembering my dreams again.

I got my office chair as a result of a Birthday gift from my Mom last year. I am REALLY happy to have it. Life is much better when you don't spend 8-hours a day sitting in a broken chair.

Did I really use that title? Well, it seems (as reported by [livejournal.com profile] dduane) that the latest DVD boxed set of the first 3 Star Wars movies will not only have the fully digitally remastered versions, but ALSO the original theatrical releases of the films. Now THAT is a collection I would buy!

Oop. Ack.

O_O

I just got a call-back. From Google. Zürich. They're interested. Of course, that just means I've passed stage one of an N-stage process. Next my CV gets passed around to the software development division and they kick at it for a while. I was told not to expect any feedback for at least another 2 weeks.

The whole process, if I even get accepted, can take months so I'm not holding my breath. But it does qualify as a good sign in my books.

Here's an article about blue frog and how its fight with a spammer overflowed onto Six Apart and its sister companies.

It looks like Coca Cola and Pepsi and announced that they will stop selling pop in schools. I am amazed and impressed by this, if it is true.

I'm currently looking for some clip art. What would be ideal would be a drawing of a busy farm scene, complete with farmer, cows, chickens, pigs, barn, etc. I'm looking for something which is a) unencumbered (ie, I don't have to pay for commercial use) and b) would be suitable to use as an illustration in a kids book.

I know that there are bazillions of clip-art repositories on the net, both free and pay, but so far I've found nothing even remotely suitable.

Drunken SF.

I'm on my 7th glass of wine, and I've been watching SF all evening.

Now back to drunken SG-1 watching...
