Had a little trouble falling asleep last night, so I didn't nod off until almost midnight, and had to drag myself out of bed at 9:00 am.

I was having some fascinating dreams of the 'stranger in a strange land' variety having to do with some truely fictitious chinese budhist culture. (No way do I believe there is an ancient chinese game consisting of equal parts miniatures wargaming, chess and robot wars...)

And now I am awake and reading LJ. Already I have made a discovery: Malboge was designd to be a harder programming language to use than Intercal...

So, I've just been forced to dig some old summery pants out of my closet that haven't fit in ages. Now they fit just fine. That's now two pairs of pants that I've shrunk out of. I think this atkins thing is working!

New Bed?

So, ever since the company I was working for started to show signs of impending doom, I stopped all purchases that weren't absolutely necessary. That was 3 years ago, and the number of things that need to be replaced in this house continues to increase. One of those things is the master bed. Its currently rather decrepid and doesn't have a headboard. The mattress is shot as well, so I've been thinking that I'll need to buy a new bed as soon as I have some positive cash flow again. To that end, I've been looking around.

Now [livejournal.com profile] taxlady and I have been talking about one day getting a four-poster bed. Maybe something with a rail around the top four posts so that drapes and perhaps a canopy could be added, to give it a more intimate feel. Well, I was just idly searching around, and I think I've found something that would suit our needs perfectly. Its a bit pricier than I was hoping for, but you pay for quality, and these look to be quite sturdily built...

Walkabout

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] taxlady and I went through a bunch of junk that we had stored under the upstairs sink and threw out half of it. The sorting was necessitated by the breaking of a large bag of borax that spilled over everything and the only way to clean it up was to haul it all out and clean it off. The fact that we threw half of it out I attribute entirely to the fact that [livejournal.com profile] taxlady has been watching a lot of "Clean Sweep" on television, and is tried to mend her pack-rat ways.

Anyway amongst the various jetsam (that we jettisoned)  and the flotsam (that we flottisoned -- er, kept) and not even mentioning the ligan... where was I?  Oh yeah, we found the 95% DEET! This is the only known thing that keeps skeeters away from my flesh. So, when my sweetie asked me to go for a walk tonight, I no longer had the excuse of minature vampires to use. So, we went for a walk, and decided to stroll down by the lake, although it was already past sunset, and getting dark.  I'm very glad we chose to do that though, because the woods were alight with fireflies! I've never seen fireflies before, but they were lighting up the woods all along the paths we took. It was very pretty, so we ended up going for quite a long walk in the very muggy weather  and I got back drenched in sweat. Still, I'm very glad I saw the glowing bug butts!
