Volkswagen has a prototype car with an amazing 1 L/100km fuel economy figure (thats 235 mpg, for Americans). It should be available in Europe in 2009, and in North America some time after.

European roads are indeed much more suitable, what with not being infested with gigantic oversized SUVs that would squash that thing flat without even noticing. Though you never know, people said the same thing about the Smart cars, and they've caught on reasonably well.
