Ever since the beginning of August I've had ideas for short stories bursting into my head unannounced. I haven't been able to motivate myself to write any of these stories. Mainly, I'm just not in the right head space for it right now.

Maybe I should write down a few sentences of each idea, so I don't completely forget them. On the other hand, I did that once and when I came back to the fragments I had written years before, whatever spark they had once had was long gone, and I had no interest in the stories.

It makes me wonder if I'll be participating in NaNoWriMo this year. I certainly WANT to. I enjoy the writing and my productivity in November ends up being over double what it is in all other months combined. What I don't need to do is set myself up for failure by agreeing to take on a challenge that I know I have no chance of completing...

What works for me with regards to small ideas for stories is to just firmly focus on the idea when I have it in my head - and if it's a story I really want to write it'll still be there once I get around to it. If I put the general idea down on paper, yeah, then it loses something and I never really get around to writing it.

As for the NaNoWriMo thing there is another option: dedicate November to be the month where you nag as many NaNoWriMo'ers as possible as much as possible ;-)
If you don't feel you have the time or right frame of mind for it I'd say don't do it. Not fun spending a month becoming more and more behind schedule with the writing.
