Its Morning.

Its morning and I haven't slept. sucha is next door in the bathroom meowing almost continuously, as she has almost all night. I don't think she's really slept at all in a day or more either. I think she's in too much pain. She also has a really hard time drinking as I don't think she can stick out her tongue any more. Actually, just a few minutes after typing that, I saw her manage to lap up some water, so she can still drink a bit, which is good.

Anyway, I've been trying to provide her what comfort I can, but its proved to be very little. Mostly I check on her every few minutes and pat her or stroke her and refill her water bowl so its brimming over, as that seems to make it easier for her to drink.

But, really, I just feel completely useless.

We'll find out what the blood tests show sometime today, and then we'll have to decide. But I very much fear we will have to have her put down. The question is, how much time can we give her, before that mercy becomes necessary?

At the risk of making you angry, I'm going to gently suggest that you make the appointment for Sucha, today. If she can't sleep because of pain and is having trouble drinking, it's time.

I know how it feels; although I was away when Steve had to put Badira to sleep, there was Dennis before Badira. It's miserable, but there's a point where it's the only loving thing to do.

you are doing all that you can do... just being there for her... topping up her water... comforting her... and when it is her time you will be with her... she knows that she is loved... and the time she has spent with you has been her happiest. small comfort in the present to know this, but when she has gone to a place with no suffering and no pain from her ailments, you will take some solace in that I am certain.

I'm sorry, I know how horrible it is to see your pet in pain. It made me sick with stress when Sunshine was dying. You're not useless, it's just not your purpose to save her.

This is all so sad. But one idea that might help: have you tried turning some accessible faucet on a trickle? That may be even easier to drink from.

I asked the vet about it. She said that as long as she is eating with good appetite and getting to her food, it's probably not time yet.

Starting about a week ago (maybe two), sucha started wanting the water in the bathroom to be running, so we've been leaving the tap open a crack in the bathtub. I think it was easier for her to drink at first, and perhaps more soothing because it was colder. At her worst last night though, she didn't seem to be able to drink from the tap any more, although she kept trying.
