Massive Journal Deletion on LJ.

It seems that Six Apart is currently deleting thousands of journals and communities on LJ, due to 'questionable content'. It seems that they've been receiving pressure to deal with journals dealing with pedophilia and other topics, and have decided to mount an unannounced purge.

It's truly unfortunate that LJ would delete journals for such a dubious reason. The one bright side is that the number of journals actually affected seems to be rather less; the various links in the post you have linked to cite some few dozen, but certainly no more than 50, that have been deleted so far. Whether this turns into something larger, of course, remains to be seen.

Well, they've now announced that it was about 500 journals, and that they now think most of it was in error, so now they're apologizing and trying to fix things.

I can't say I'm pleased, but at least it doesn't look as malicious as it previously seemed, just really stupid.
