Copenhagen in August?

No idea how great the probability is, but I've heard rumors to the effect that I may be in Copenhagen sometime in August. No further news is available at this time. I suppose I should get off my butt and get me my UK passport before then though, just in case.

Why would you get a "UK" passport to go to "Scandinavia"? Will you be going to the UK in the same trip? Or is that just a Canadian terminology thing where UK means something other than United Kindom?

If I go to Denmark, I'll want to actively look for a job while there. North Americans have far more trouble immigrating to Denmark and getting work visas than people from the EU. If I can flash an EU country (ie, United Kingdom) passport while there, it will be easier to convince someone to hire me, as it will be far less work for them.

'fraid so, yeah. Maybe not permanently, but I wouldn't mind working 'over there' for 5 years or so. Maybe it would get me out of this rut I've found myself in lately.

Or I might be able to visit you for a change! One of the advantages of moving to a country with such a high cost of living is that your pocket money has much higher purchasing power in the rest of the world -- making things like international flights relatively cheaper.

ohhhh.... you are thinking of working there. Yes, I know about how hard it is for us North Americas to emigrate to any Scandinavian country. Are you a dual citizen of Canada and the UK?

Technically yes, officially no. My Dad was born in England, and I was born in wedlock long enough ago that I do qualify for UK citizenship. I'm just not currently registered as one. I talked to the embassy and they said that all I need to do is apply for a passport, and I will automatically become registered as a UK citizen.

I did something similar 10 years ago, before I moved to the UK. My advice is: make a day trip to Ottawa and hand over the paperwork in person at the embassy, that way they will check that you filled in all the required info and so on. Also, call first and double check they will charge for the passport fees, and what are the accepted methods of payment.

Thanks for the advice, but that is already the plan! I've made one day trip to find out what the full procedure it (as the forms are not at all clear), and we'll make another to hand in the paperwork.

The only hitch is that I need to get another copy of my BC Birth Certificate as the current short-form version I have isn't good enough.
