I love this stuff. Here are 29 Predictions for the year 2000 from the December 1900 Ladies Home Journal. Actually, these are surprisingly accurate.

Those are some of the most remarkably accurate predictions I've seen. Not completely on-target, but more right than wrong.

I love how in the first couple, they're right on target until the last sentence, when they suddenly get all wacky. "Taller by one to two inches - longer life span, better santitation and medicine! And everyone will live in the suburbs, but commuting will be WONDERFUL and will only cost a penny!"

Like the strawberries the size of an apple. Well, I guess it depends on the size of the apple. But, that really wasn't a very good idea. The damned things are tasteless.

I was pretty suspicious of those predictions. There were some off-notes and overall too much accuracy to be believable. Given the role that university played at the time, mentioning that it is free doesn't seem like it would have been worthy of predicting without also predicting why that would be significant. And predicting airships used as weapons seems unlikely given that the Wright Bros. didn't fly til 1903 and air travel only progressed at the speed it did due to 2 world wars, which weren't part of the predictions. Since it states its source, it should be possible to verify.

I thought that it was pretty obvious, given the nature of the predictions, that they were thinking 'lighter than air' when they said airships. In other words, dirigibles and zeppelins.
