Hokay, so I've tried out the Sims. My first attempt was to build a largish family of 6 people (all adults) and have them buy an empty lot. I then discovered they didn't really have enough money for a house, so they built a one-room hovel. Heck, it was still much better than is available in some 3rd world countries! Anyway, I figured they would all get jobs and roll back the money into improving the house. Well, I couldn't get any of them to go and get a job, and they couldn't find the bathroom. They also couldn't find the beds and kept collapsing on the floor. Not good.

So, then I made a smaller family: One guy. I named him Matt, bought him a tiny place and barely managed to furnish it. He got on the Internet and found himself a job within an hour. Then 'Tiffany' his neighbor rang the doorbell. They ended up talking, dancing and flirting and goind out on a date. I figured Matt was gonna get lucky, but I was soooo wrong. The Date was a disaster. Tiffany kept saying she was hungry, but didn't want to go to a restaurant. She wanted to dance, but I couldn't find a dance place for her and Matt. She stopped talking to him and he took a cab home, all depressed. Matt went to work the next day and bumped into another nice lady ('Djinni', from the first family I made), and invited her in. Since the game said he had an aptitude for cooking, I had Matt cook her supper.  Well, the stove caught on fire, and Matt actually died trying to put the fire out! Meanwhile, Djinni was running around screaming and the Grim Reaper was rining the doorbell. Not good.

So, then I had the city council rezone the first families Hovel and bulldoze it. The family got most of their money back, with which they bough a slightly better designed house. Then I used a cheat and made them horribly wealthy. I'm now making renovations on the house. I only hope they manage to find the bathrooms once I've got the thing fixed up.

My recipe:

To start with, all you need in terms of building is an outhouse containing the best toilet and the best bathtub you can get. Beds and kitchen counters go outdoors. After the Sims have earned a bit of money, then start putting up walls for the rest of the house.

It's been a while since I last played. I like trying to get the best results from the smallest building possible ... all my most recent Sim families have had outdoor kitchens and al fresco dining. It never rains in Simland....
