The Awokening

swestrupWell, lets see, when last we looked in on our entrepid adventurers, they were preparing to visit a friends house for a traditional Christmas Eve feast. Which they did. Here's how it went:
There were a large number of folks over, as L (the host) has 5 kids, although one is now in the army and is currently stationed overseas somewhere. That left 3 male and 1 females, all of whom had invited SOs. This was a change over last year, when only the elder two boys brought dates. We also learned that the eldest is now engaged. All told this meant that there were 4 females and 4 males all varying from 15 to 23(I guess) in age, in addition to the 'adults'. Nornally I would have expected this to have been cause for a very loud party, but everyone was quite subdued this time. I think it was the knowledge that, due to financial problems, this was the last Christmas they were going to spend in this house. taxlady, our host and I, the 'adults' consisted of L, Dave (Steve) and David (Frank) who kept switching names during the party, and the perennial Jenni.
So, we all talked and ate, and drank and talked and then it was 1:00 am and lots of the folks had already gone to sleep. The adults were amazed to find that most of the kids had already retired to bed by that time. The cynic in me noted that since they had each retired to their own bedrooms with an SO in tow, the fact that they had all packed it in early was not necessaritly so mysterious. I know that had I been the boyfriend of either C (our hosts 15yr old daughter) or Val (girlfriend of the youngest son -- probably 17), getting them alone would have been high on MY priorites. I've known 'C' since she was born, and I always thought that she was a rather plain little girl, and would grow up rather plain. I was dead wrong. Every year since she hit puberty she's gotten more pretty, and it hasn't shown signs of slowing down yet.
So, anyway around 2:00 am (the earliest that party has ever broken up, in my memory) we hit the road and headed home. I then puttered around for a few hours before falling asleep around 4 or 5 am. I slept like a log and didn't wake up until 7:00 pm. I guess I had some catching up to do. So, now I'm awake and, with the possible exception of New Years Eve, have finished with this years festivities.
