There are, in China, a number of buffet restaurants that advertise a fixed price for 'a plate full' of food. Since these tend to be American style places, with American style prices, it has become somewhat of an artform to see just how much food one can pile onto a single plate or bowl without spilling any.

Above stolen from [livejournal.com profile] dashing, as usual.

Wow! This was pretty obviously "art for art's sake" because everything would have gotten cold in the meantime!

Maybe the cucumber wall was built first, and then the rest of the food was gingerly poured down the middle?

I wonder what the insulation properties of cucumber are ;)

If it's all salad, then that's not such a big deal.

Ok... if it's not such a big deal if it's a salad... I challenge you to re-create this piece of food :) :P *hugs*

Sorry, I didn't mean to lessen the magnitude of the accomplishment; rather, if it's all salad, then it's even more impressive, since the aforementioned temperature difference wouldn't matter.

Why would you not use toothpicks as re-inforcing anchors in the cucumbers? Is that cheating or something? I mean, lots of finger food type things use them...

Bah! :) You're taking all the fun out of my mental image of slippery cucumbers and Peter trying to deal with them... *pouts* lol. I am thinking in fun perspective, not reality perspective, cause that's no fun. :)

Decades ago I was talking to a student who had worked in the MIT AI lab. He told me that there was a fixed price for a bowl of salad at the salad bar in the cafeteria. A sign has been posted, "No architecture". Apparently you can get quite creative with cantilevered celery sticks.
