Disappointing Day.
May. 3rd, 2006 03:38 amToday was a bit disappointing. Plans just didn't work out. We had thought that we would have a slight bit of a splurge to celebrate the end of tax season by going out for supper (made slightly more necessary by there being no food in the house, as we've been too busy to shop).
The first idea was to go to Shahi Palace for supper and then on to a desert place for coffee and cheesecake afterwards.
Shahi Palace is a wonderful Pakistani restaurant that I am quite fond of. I was drooling in anticipation of their various dishes, but it turns out that since we were there last, they have instituted a new policy of being closed every Tuesday.
Somewhat disheartened we decided to go to Jack Astors instead. Its a bit more pricey, but can be lots of fun. They, at least, turned out to be open but when we went inside we found they had redecorated in wall-to-wall TVs and were making themselves over into a sports bar. And of course, the Habs were playing tonight so they were on every available surface.
As if that wasn't bad enough, the menu has shrunk and a number of the included all-you-can-eat items are now not included and are paid for by unit. Thus a somewhat pricey restaurant has become much more so while reducing the choices and the ambiance. I expect we shall not go back for a very long time.
Since we were going to Calories (we finally decided) for cheesecake, I didn't partake of their individual apple pies although apple pie is one of my favorite deserts.
At Calories we got another surprise. They were under new management and the selection of deserts had shrunk. They still had cheesecake and coffee though, so we ordered some.
After some difficulty in getting the coffee right, we started in on our cheesecakes. I don't know what
taxlady thought of hers (she had the raspberry), but my strawberry cheesecake was not very good. It was so soft that it was more like eating whipped cream than cheesecake.
We returned home where I made myself a coffee that was better than what I had at Calories, and then had some mixed nuts because I was still hungry.
Afterwards I came upstairs to my office to write up my woes on Livejournal, only to discover the service was down. Instead I puttered around with some CSS on a site I'm building, just long enough to break it in some subtle way. Then I went to bed.
Only I couldn't sleep, so now I'm back in my office and seeing as how LJ seems to be back again, I'm complaining to the world in general and my f-list in particular.
(BTW, am I the only one who thinks that f-list is a somewhat unfortuneate abbreviation? Everyone else seems to use it, so I've been doing so, but some part of me seems to think it should stand for fuck-list, which is generally a different list that my friends list.)

Disappointing Day.

Too bad about Jack Astor's. Obviously "Cage Aux Sports" wasn't enough - has it gone out of business?
