I subscribe to a bunch of scientific journals and electronic newsclipping services and the like, so I'm always getting news of interesting breakthroughs. And then there's my older brother, who sends me Estimating the Airspeed Velocity of an Unladen Swallow.

In other news, it turns out that chocolate fudge, although a solid, has a rather high evaporation rate. Whats that called again... Sublimation! Thats it! So, it seems that sublime fudge vanishes at an alarming rate. [livejournal.com profile] taxlady made 1.24 pounds (600 gm?) yesterday, and its almost all gone now. I told her we needed to keep the saran wrap much tighter on the container to prevent evaporation and she said that wasn't conducive to her well-being. I'll ask her for further explanation when she returns from a visit to a client. Of course, judging by the current sublimation rate, the question will most likely be moot by then.

Yeah, what's really incredible about fudge sublimation is that it's completely temperature-independent, and in fact seems to vary only with the proximity to human beings..

We've found the same to be true of baklava. Perhaps it has something to do with a high fat content.

But - and this is interesting - not dogklava.

Once upon a time

there lived a curly haired little girl.

Her mother one day decided to make an hole tray ot creme brulee. 1.5 litters of it.

And sinceit was winter but winter in a warmer climate than here, the little girl who must have been 6 or 7 was told by her mother to go and put the tray of still warm creme brulee on the balcony so it would cooloff faster.

And the little girl did.

When supper time came the little girl's mother went to the balcony to get the tray of creme brulee for desert and only found an empty tray.

When she asked the little girl what happened to the tray of creme brulee the little girls looked up into her mother's eyes and with all her innocence said : " maybe it evaporated ? "

And until this day the little girl remains innocent, but her mother does not beleive that simple feat of physics called evaporation of creme brulee.

The end
