Here is a pointer to a wonderful 'debate' on the various merits of Evolution vs Intelligent Design. It seems everyone on my flist is pointing to is, and who am I to go against the crowd?

What I really think is wonderful is his clever, intelligent use of language in the update section below:

If you're a creationist or IDiot [0]...

That always works. Call anyone who disagrees with you an idiot. He must be a protege of Bill O'Reilly.

...dumbing down their writing style to a second-grade level.

This is in reference to scientists who engage in debates with creationists. So what is it when you call people who disagree with you idiots? Is that the kind of "writing" style one learns in college?

The thing that you're about to write is not only wrong, but transparently, stupidly, embarrassingly wrong, so wrong that it makes me wince inwardly with shame at the fact that you're a member of the same human race that I am.

Breathtaking! This guy is so smart! I wish more people like him were part of the human race - maybe the world would be a better place.

Seriously, I'm not even close to being a creationist - if anything, when it comes to the evolution of life anyway, I lean more to catastrophism. Still heretical in orthodox science, I know, but that's my vantage point. Evolution happens, yes, I know it does. But it isn't the complete story, in my opinion, because as a matter of historical fact, we never have the complete story. That's the nature of human existence.

"Call me an asshole if you want, but don't you dare claim that my post is somehow representative of evolution advocates"

I wouldn't even bother, but I'm afraid this is mostly the kind of argument I read when I read the words of staunch neo-darwinians. People who have any kind of problem with the orthodoxy are variously called idiots, dummies, and crackpots. Call me an idiot, but when you have to resort to name-calling to make a point, you've lost me. What do you suppose the Christian orthodoxy were calling Copernicus when he postulated the planets, including our own, revolved around the Sun, but got the math wrong? We had to wait until Kepler got the math right for the heliocentric position to take hold. Even then, Galileo thought Kepler was a crackpot because he basically threw out the Ptolmeic formulas.

The ID people may be wrong, but this kind of violent reaction from the neo-Darwinist camp just helps their cause.

If you've been on the side of the Evolutionists as long as someone like he has, and has had to endure vast amounts of illogic and name calling, its not terribly surprising he's bitter.

Having been there and known what he's gone through, I can hardly help but sympathise.
