Haven't felt much like posting lately. Dealing with roughly six overlapping domestic crises has both me and [livejournal.com profile] taxlady very emotional. We're getting upset at the most minor of things. I came very close to throwing my mouse across the room yesterday, and I don't DO that sort of thing.

My plan for today is to take it easy and try to relax, and maybe do a little internet research. We went shopping for bathroom repair stuff yesterday, and realized once we were at the store that we didn't know enough to make any purchases. I've got to find out what kind of paint primer you need in order to put acrylic bathroom paint over old oil paint (which is what is in there now). I need to find out the clearances of the various replacement toilets we looked at, and figure out how much space we have. The current toilet is a bit of a tight fit and we don't want to buy a new one only to discover its too big to be installed. I also need to work out what sort of floor preparation is needed for putting down tile vs. the floating tile-like floor we looked at a few months ago.

re: primer for acrylic over oil paint.

look for a product called "Kilz". not sure if you have that brand up there, but if you do, it will do the trick.

re: tile vs floating tile
laying tile is quite involved from the preparation stand point. you're going to need a special underlayment. it's kind of a P.I.T.A. if you ask me. but none the less... lowes.com and diynet.com both have good "do it yourself" resources for things like this... and i am relatively positive that i have seen detailed instructions for laying tile on lowes.com

best of luck on it all!

One thing to do about your paint dilemma if you happen to be downtown is to go consult the very friendly and knowledgeable people at City Paint (200 Rachel East). They should be able to enlighten you as to your options much better than some minimum-wage high school kid at Home Depot - these people are to paint what you or I are to computers.

While you're there, you could pick up the supplies they recommend, if you enjoy supporting small local paint stores (which I do, since my brother worked at one for several years). But one way or the other, you should know unequivocably where you stand.
