Making tea isn't complicated. Unless, of course, you've just woken up and haven't had any tea.

Upon waking today, I went downstairs and noticed that there was tea in the thermos from last night, but it was cold. So I put it in the microwave to nuke while I started a new batch of tea. Knowing my mental state, I sent a message to my brain: "Urgent: Don't forget to get tea!", so I wouldn't forget it in the microwave.

Sure enough, I've cleaned out the teapot, added new tea, filled the kettle and set it to boil, and I've completely forgotten about tea in the microwave (which beeped and finished heating sometime during the setting up of tea.)

I'm getting ready to leave and I get this message:
"Urgent: Don't forget to get tea!"
I look at the stove and think "Teas not ready yet!"
"Urgent: Don't forget to get tea!"
I look at the stove and think "Teas not ready yet!"
"Urgent: Don't forget to get tea!"
I look at the stove and think "Teas not ready yet!"

I must have been in that loop for a minute or so before it occurred to me that I could shut up the voice by getting tea from the microwave...

I just did something like that this morning. I put my cup in the coffee machine and pushed the button to make a cup of coffee, only realizing too late that I'd forgotten to add the gound coffee first.

And I said, as I watched the vaguely tan hot water pour into my cup, the problem with making coffee before I've had my coffee is that I haven't had my coffee yet. And the people in my office understood.

I'm impressed. Your reminder thread is persistent and strong. My version of the same incident would have had me out the door and pausing every now and then: after locking the top door, in the middle of the driveway, and halfway to the metro before I'd finally remember about whatever it was I was supposed to remember.
