So far, so good.
Mar. 28th, 2005 06:25 pmWhen I stuck the new 200GB drive in the removable drive bay, the bios recognized it as a 203 GB disk at once. Windows tells me its 189.92 GB, but that's typical. Right now, its happily formatting away, and I haven't got any errors. If I can reliably write to and verify data at the end of the disk (I put a small partition there, for testing), then I'll declare it a win, perform a full backup to the new backup drive, and then format the second 200GB and migrate my files there.
After that I'll have to actually open up my machine to put the drive inside, and I'll install the new RAM while I'm at it. I don't know if I'll get that all done tonight though, as this fomat is taking FOREVER.
(In the new drive's defense, its SWATTING HUGE, and I don't think my controller is correctly using the higher speed transfer modes. That's something that I plan to try and fix, once I have a full backup).
