TCP/IP desperately needs to be replaced. Someone is now proposing an RFC for a replacement. More info on slashdot.

Might not be totally relevant, but I have to say that SCTP is pretty cool and is gathering a good amount of momentum at the moment (I think it might even be available in a normal installation of Windows XP!)... If anything, it seems realistic for it to be able to replace TCP in some area, at least.

I don't know what to make of these people. They've been trying to persuade us that we should use their stuff instead of mine, but since we're running incompressible streams and we either don't have the latency budget for FEC (and yes, I've thought about statistical blockwise FEC methods, and even content-sensitive variants of this), or are synching to a slow source and are happy with ARQ, and my code smoothly does both, I can't imagine what they think they're thinking.
