ISP Woes.

Sometime during supper my ISP stopped talking to me. Now, I have an always-on DSL connection, and that is NOT supposed to happen. Do to a comedy of errors revolving around the fact that its hard to talk to tech support when your wife needs the phone line to use an old modem to get important email, I have not managed to resolve the problem before my brain gave out. Not that I had only 5:00 hours sleep last night and so I had fully intended to be in bed two hours ago. Anyway, I shall fix that forthwith, and if I don't post much for the next day or so, assume I'm still having ISP problems.

Last time that happened to me, tech support started going through the physical checklist - do you have filters on all your lines? Have a switch or router? Etc - and of course I had to humour them before I could get them to admit that it's their fault, which it always is.

Except this time it wasn't - they asked, "Is your modem 2 feet from any other electrical equipment?" and it wasn't. When I moved it, it cleared right up. Amazing. First time they've ever been right about anything.

Now, I've never paid any attention to that before, and neither has anyone else I know. But if, like me, you usually keep your modem on top of your tower, you might as well try moving it out before wasting time with tech support again.
