Ooorg. I was up at 6:00 am again! This morning I had my 8 hours sleep, but I am stiff, sore and sunburned now and I have to do it all over again. I got too much sun on my neck and arms yesterday, although its only my right arm that I burned badly.

In a little over an hour I have to start hauling stuff outside for the yard sale again, and when its over, anything that didn't sell will need to be hauled inside. I suspect setup will be a bit slow today, because I creak when I move...

The prediction was in the Oct 2004 issue of National Geographic and gave a good description of exactly what could (and did) happen to New Orleans. It mentioned that it was in the top 3 or 4 of FEMA's worst case disaster scenarios for America, up there with a terrorist attack on New York or a major earthquake in LA.

They also mentioned that the Bush administration slashed the budget for the plan that was drawn up to try and reduce the risks. Then again, in this case they may have been right. Not much work would have managed to be accomplished before Katrina struck. Then again again, the Bush administration wouldn't have known that either. *sigh*

Resting...

So, today was another long hard day of yard salage. We sold more stuff than I feared, but less than I wanted. We seem to have collected $50 and a few promises, and so it may not be a way to make a living, but it wasn't too shabby either.

Sometime this week we'll put up some photos and prices of stuff that didn't sell, to see if anyone is interested, but for now, we rest. We haven't even hauled all of our junk out of the tiny entry hall (the 'catlock') where we dumped it while cleaning up, but I am too much the acheing muscles and the sunburned skin to want to do any more for a bit.

Shell has just announced that it has invented a viable method for extracting oil from oil shale, something the oil companies have been wanting to do for ages. Colorado has 1000 square miles of oil shale, which Shell says is good for about one trillion barrels of oil. Their technique is cost effective so long as oil is above US$30 a barrel (its currently at $71), and uses 1 unit of energy for every 3.5 units of energy the recovered oil contains.

Right now I'm feeling mighty sore. My arms and back is killing me from schlepping tons of junk out to the yard sale and back two days in a row. I also sunburned my arms rather badly. This makes going to bed uncomfortable, so despite being dead tired, I'm still awake.

Hmmm. Maybe a good stiff drink will help numb things enough to sleep. Certainly sounds like its worth a try anyway!

So far.

Well, so far my cunning plan seems to be working. Lets see if the sleep part succeeds.
