Went to bed at 8:30 and was woken at 11:00 pm by bad dreams. They were all about performance anxiety -- go figure, when I have an important meeting tomorrow morning where I will most likely accept a new job. Bleah. I think I'm going to need more than 2.5 hours sleep though, so I'm heading back to bed.

Still can't sleep, so I'm puttering around on the computer. I Just got an email from my mom containing this photo showing what could go wrong if you decide to release pidgeons at your wedding.

I give up. Although I'm exhausted and my head aches from lack of sleep, every time I lay down I'm suddenly wide awake. My alarm is set to go off in 30 minutes, so there's not much point in trying to sleep now. I'm going to make myself some coffee with actual caffeine in it, and have a shower.

Mornings. Feh, who needs em?

According to this slashdot article, an ISP called Hurricane Electric has created a new bittorrent service. Now paying customers can upload files to the ISP, and it will seed them and run a tracker on the clients behalf. What's more, all files shared in this way DO NOT count against user bandwidth quotas. Nifty!

So, I was reading a thread on Slashdot about how to best secure your computer, and I came across a comment here, that made me laugh out loud. I'll quote it verbatim, since its short:

My password's set to my dog's name.

My dog's name is currently 4$ter*Zf1, but I change it every 90 days.

One of the nice things about going decaf has been that real coffee now works to wake me up again. After just 2 of the 3 large mugs of coffee I made myself, I can feel my brain waking up. I'll probably crash and burn by noon, but I don't expect my meeting to last past 10:00 am, and I think a nap around noontime will be a Very Good Idea™.

Feh. I don't even really know why I'm so nervous. I mean, I've already GOT a job offer. All we're doing now is the final negotiations and seeing if they have any major gotchas like some sort of draconian work contract. I guess its just that after 2 years without a real job, I'm worried that I'll somehow ruin everything.

So, I haven't signed the contract yet (that's tomorrow), but I told the man I would take the job and we shook on it! So, starting Monday I am an employee of TerraScale. Work should vary from the mundane to the very interesting, as some of their clients will need work done on supercomputer clusters. Ha! Some of them have REAL bandwidth. I'm talking upwards of 45 Gbps links!

Still, I won't be doing anything quite that exciting for a bit. At first I'll be working on some sort of automated license server application using strong encryption. I'll pick up a bunch of documenation tomorrow, and find out about the requirements on Monday, no doubt.

Now though, I am off to bed so that I can catch a couple more hours of sleep. Otherwise, I'll never make it to the LJ meetup tonight, and I really don't want to miss it.

So, G'Nap all!

I just tried to send [livejournal.com profile] miseri some email at the address from which his last message came (and to which I have successfully sent mail earlier this week) and it bounced with a 'Relay Access Denied' message from mx.mcgill.ca, which should not be, because he has an address @mail.mcgill.ca and mx.mcgill.ca IS the MX for said place.

Either someone has deleted his email account, or someone else has tweaked something on the server they shouldn't have.  Since I have no other email address for the man, I'm posting this here in the vague hope he'll see it.

Oh, the gist of the message was that its more convenient to give Joe the snake tomorrow.
