Just read about this device Oops, I mean one of these in the journal of [livejournal.com profile] frosch who is a friend of [livejournal.com profile] zadcat. It appears to be a fancy-schmancy new type of all-in-one esspresso maker. Pour beans in the top and espresso comes out the bottom. All the grinding and stuff is done for you internally. Folks say it makes great coffee, is easy to use, and only costs $700 Ameribucks.

Updated with better URL: Turns out you can get english if you allow cookies.

No, that thing uses Saeco coffee capsules. I don't know how good those are, but that machine hasn't got a grinder inside.

(P.S., you seem to have messed up your lj-user link.)

hrrmm...maybe.....

There is one problem that these types of machines have : time.

After a few months of dayly use the rubber joints inside tend to get loose and if you don't use mineral-free water you start to have deposits ( that english ? ) in the internal "tubes"

Having had somethign that looked like that for a while , I know these problems are all fixed if you ae willing to take the machien apart every 3 or 4 months and soak all the parts that touch coffee or water soak for 12-15 hours in hot water and vinegar. Or else you will start to have burnt tasting coffee.

That particular model doesn't seem to be very "take apart" friendly, plus there might be some guarantee problems if you do.

Personally I have always found that having a good old fashioned espresso maker is better, easier to take apart to clean all the parts. And easier to find replacement for those rubber thingies that get burnt, used, loose very fast.

But this is me, being portuguese, I have a twisted sence of what espresso should be like. We like our espressos to be rather...potent ?

Actually the website says they have a patent on the takapartableness. But then, there's a patent on arithmetic coding (which is simply what you'd do if you weren't feeling 100% stupid and trying to waste space), so....
