In not very long at all, I will be asleep. I just thought I would post that I've finally managed to do something I've been meaning to do since I installed XP.

When I switched from the 9x Kernel to the NT Kernel, many of the tools and helper programs that I use stopped working. As a result I went on a massive internet search for usable replacements. Now, Sturgeons Law dictates that 90% of everything is crap, so I had to wade through a lot of pretty bad code to find useful stuff. As I was also trying to accomplish other things at the same time, I didn't always have time to try out all of the software that had caught my eye as being potentially useful. The result was that my Downloads directory has been steadily accumulating large amounts of cruft.

Today I sorted out all of the cruft, tried the programs I hadn't gotten around to trying yet, kept the good and uninstalled the bad. Then I organized it into subfolders by software category and finally burned it all to a pair of CD's.  So, if we take Sturgeon's Law at face value, the fact that there was roughly 1 Gig of worthwhile code to save implies that I must have tested and discarded 10 Gig or more.  I believe it.

Now if I ever have to reinstall XP from scratch, I have a pair of CDs with the vast majority of the tools I'll need to find. I think I've earned some bed rest now, no? So, I go snooze now.
