My entire life, or at least since the age of about 5, I have tried to understand how a car differential works. Many experiments with Lego differentials and with hours spent reading explanations from various books were in vain. Today, with the help of Wikipedia, I finally figured it out. It even makes sufficient sense that I have to wonder why it took me so many years to get it right.

Differentials are *amazing*. I remember thinking "Of course!! And it's so brilliant!" the first time someone drew me the diagram and explained it.
