Putting it off.
Dec. 31st, 2008 06:55 pmI think I'm going to delay my attempts to recover my lost files until after I've had some time to think about the best methodology to use, and what my various options are. Since I'm not actively using any of the involved partitions, I should be able to just leave things as they are while I work out a plan. Ideally I'd like to take an image of the semi-erased source drive so that if I goof I could just restore the image and try again. The thing is, its a 300 GB drive, and I don't have an extra 300 GB of space anywhere. In fact, that's the largest drive I have.
I'm thinking I might spend my birthday money (which I never spent because I was too sick) on a large hard drive, but I was rather thinking of saving that money for when I build a mythtv / video server / download server in a couple of weeks, in case I find I'm missing any crucial bits. Then again there's a good chance that what that server will want most is a humongous drive. Hmmm.
In any case, I've realized that I have a full backup of my old system that died 1 year ago, including all of the music files I had up to that point. So, I've probably not lost much, other than the month or so I took to completely reorganize things this year...
