The Emergency Migraine System
Oct. 19th, 2008 12:41 pmNote: I wrote this yesterday, but for some reason it refused to post, so I'm trying again:
No, I don't have another migraine, but when I woke up just now Prudence declared that it would be beneficial if I was well familiar with how to make an espresso in my new machine, so that I wouldn't be fumbling and uncertain as to how to do it in a real migraine emergency. Unhelpfully, Prudence didn't offer to make the coffee, but mumbled something about another two hours, rolled over, and went back to sleep, leaving it up to me to get out of bed and do the work.
I did use the thing once before, because the instructions claimed that the first batch of coffee would remove any lingering solvents, grease or fine manufacturing dust and that therefore the first batch shouldn't be drunk. So, I made a batch a few days ago to throw out. I also burned said batch, hence the need for more practice.
The little stove-top espresso maker is easy to use, but I hadn't realized that it would sit around a while with no coffee yet, and then suddenly transition to full in a very short time. After that, if you leave it on the stove the coffee will get hot enough to boil, and you'll ruin it.
So, I made myself a double espresso alonge (an "Americano") and it turned out quite good. I also used up the last of the cream in the house making it.
Had I realized I was that low I would have picked some up last night after work. As is, I was already planning to do a quick shop at the store, but after I was thoroughly awake from drinking my coffee. I may end up doing something dumb, like making a cream run so that I can have enough coffee to be awake enough to plan my shopping.
Or maybe its just a good excuse to go out for breakfast, and I can work on the shopping list when I get back. And maybe Prudence will have woken up by then and I won't end up buying three chocolate cakes.
