Building used to mostly belong to Intel's legal department and they got moved out during some sort of reorganization or restructuring. Intel decided it was going to sell the building, so they moved everyone else out. Then they changed their minds about selling. They've switched that decision a number of times since.
It seems our team figured it would be a good place to work undisturbed and was better than any of the other spaces they got offered, so that's where we ended up. Its mostly good in that we're left to ourselves to get the project done, and we've been told we get to work far more autonomously than most Intel projects, but its not so good in that we're sometimes forgotten out there and we have to keep reminding them that we're supposed to have infrastructure support.
One nice perk is that if I need to get away from the noise to read through some tricky code or to puzzle out a problem (I think best in silence), its not hard to find a corner where you won't be disturbed.
