Milestones.
Sep. 12th, 2008 11:40 pmToday marked the end of my 4th week of work here in Silicon Valley and its now all started to become routine. I'm even starting to show some minor signs of insomnia again. I don't immediately collapse into sleep upon getting in from work every day.
Today also marked two separate milestones. The first was the point at which this whole exercise became worthwhile. This time last week I finally passed the point at which I had earned enough to balance the cost of moving down here and maintaining a separate household. Had they fired me then I would only have been out the cost of breaking my mini-lease and the plane tickets home. If they fire me now, I'll have earned enough that I'd be able to go home knowing I had made a (slight) profit from this whole adventure. From now on, any time I work here is gravy as I'm now on the positive side of the cash flow calculation.
The second milestone that got marked today is that they finally paid me for my first week's work! So, my first week's pay is currently sitting in my company's bank account, and modulo any difficulties in taking said monies and putting them into Linda and my personal bank account, I have the means to pay bills now and get me out of debt. Further payments should now come at weekly intervals. This is, as they say, A GOOD THING.
In celebration of these milestones I'm now on something like my sixth glass of wine since getting in from work, so if there are grammatical or spelling errors in the above, you know what the cause is.
