How My Day Went.
Sep. 10th, 2008 08:27 pm8:30 am - Wake up an hour late because I forgot to set the alarm. Scramble to have my shower and first cup of coffee.
9:00 am - Head out the door to grab breakfast since they stop serving at 9:30.
9:20 am - Having hastily bolted some bacon, eggs, sausage, OJ and coffee, I go talk to the front desk about non-working door (and missing knives and forks).
9:30 am - Back at my room, I notice the door does in fact still latch after my jury rigging last night, but it won't last. I touch the door plate, it goes 'clack' and the door now doesn't latch again. At least I won't have the problem of everything appearing to work when maintenance gets here.
9:45 am - Drinking coffee, reading my emails and stuff as the maintenance guy arrives. He has a screwdriver and a knife. This does not look good.
10:00 am - First maintenance guy has given up as its obvious he doesn't even know how to diagnose the problem. Tells me he's gonna send for 'Ruise' or someone like that. I am supposed to be arriving at work, right now. Send an email saying I'm indefinitely delayed. Start noticing a massive headache. Take an Advil.
10:15 am - Second repair man arrives. He actually has the kinds of tools one uses to fix a door. He also has a pile of spare door parts. He figures out the problem in no time and starts fixing.
10:25 am - Second repair guy has fixed things handily. All four locks now work. This is better than when I moved in. First guy has come back to clean up the sawdust, and to take care of the other things I mentioned on my first day here -- broken lamp and missing oven knobs. None of his knobs work, but the lamp just needs a new bulb, and that he can do.
10:30 am - I leave the room for the maid (who should have knives and forks with her) and rush to catch a bus to work.
10:45 am - Barely make it to the bus stop on time. Good thing too, as they're only once every 30 minutes this time of day.
11:00 am - Despite being sufficiently out of it to nearly miss my stop, I get to work just a couple minutes before 11:00 -- only an hour late.
12:00 pm - Can't think. Headache is still getting worse. Take another Advil. Decide to just read some relevant code rather than trying to get any real work done. Reflect that I don't know what is worse, that the kitchen has a free Advil dispenser, or that its completely empty. Good thing I brought my own.
3:00 pm - Still can't think. Headache is killing me. I take two AC&C. Good thing I had them in my pack as well.
3:30 pm - Starting to feel human again. Decide maybe I can get some actual work done.
5:45 pm - Whoa! Where did the last 2 hours go? I guess being able to concentrate makes a difference.
6:25 pm - Surprised at what I got done in the last 3 hours. Stayed 1/2 hour later than my usual 6:00 pm to partly make up for being late. Get ready to go home.
6:30 pm - Out the door of the office and walking to the bus.
6:45 pm - Got to the stop just a minute before the bus.
7:00 pm - Having gotten off the bus, am arriving at the supermarket and drugstore between the bus stop and my room. Got some groceries to buy.
7:30 pm - Various groceries and toiletries purchased, I arrive back at my place, and start boiling water for pasta for supper. A quick check shows I have knives and forks again, and twice as many spoons as before, although I never asked for any.
8:00 pm - Pasta supper having been cooked and consumed, I sit down to write this little missive.
8:26 pm - Missive written, its time to relax!
