For those of you who haven't been privileged to read my friends-locked posts on the matter, its looking increasingly likely that I'll be doing contract work for a major silicon-valley corporation in silicon valley for (at least) a few months. So, I spent most of 'yesterday' doing research on the very many logistical questions involved in such an enterprise. There is a huge amount of paperwork involved in doing consulting for a major American corporation, most of which makes assumptions about you being an American. So, I've been trying to find out how to fill in the paperwork if you're a Canadian.

In addition, suddenly relocating to an unfamiliar city in another country involves all sorts of logistical questions as well. Like, where I'm going to stay, and what kind of lodging is it possible to afford in the heart of silicon valley, how much will it cost to eat, where will I shop, how will I get around without a car, etc, etc.

Meanwhile I'm getting my hours rotated around as I've been waking up later and later in the afternoon these days and it seems time I did something about that. So, I stayed up until noon 'yesterday' and slept for 12 hours to wake up just a few minutes ago. With a bit of luck I shall stay awake until around 8:00 pm tonight and will then be much closer to being synced onto some sort of 9 to 5 schedule for a bit.

Congratulations. You most likely need "TN" status to consult with the US compaany. More info here: http://www.grasmick.com/nafta.htm

... without a car.
Um, now you're dreaming; although I'll let the locals tell you about that!

Good luck anyway, because it all sounds very exciting!
Encouraging hugs,
H.

Good luck figuring everything out. :)

I live in Fremont, where rents are cheaper than most of Silicon Valley proper, and a lot of major corporations run shuttles from the BART station to their offices. So that's worth looking into (you'd just want to live in walking distance from BART, or biking distance).

Great news! I hope this pans out exactly as you hope it will.

Assuming all goes well, will there be a party in the offing? ;-)

Well, that was implied by my comment "assuming all goes well" but since you mentioned it, the party IS of prime importance in the karmic balance of your life. :-)
