Lack of Coffee
Apr. 15th, 2008 03:22 pmI decided that, as a reward for having to fill out another dumb test, full of vague questions, I would take a short walk to my local coffee shop and have a large decaf while I read the paper.
It turns out that the Cafe Depot a block from my house is no more. That leaves me with no good coffee options nearby. In increasing distance from the house, we have:
It turns out that the Cafe Depot a block from my house is no more. That leaves me with no good coffee options nearby. In increasing distance from the house, we have:
- An Art Cafe where one is expected to pay for the cup as well as the coffee, paint it, and come back later to claim it. Not really what I'm looking for in a coffee shop.
- A brand-new quite-expensive coffee shop and restaurant with mediocre coffee.
- A Starbucks (YUCK) which was once a Dunkin Donuts which was far cheaper and had MUCH better coffee.
- A Second Cup, which is actually quite good, but by now we're talking about a 20 minute walk to get there.
- A Coffee Time, which I've never been in, which is just a bit farther away than the Second Cup, in the opposite direction.
- Tim Hortons or Tim Hortons, roughly equidistant from me in two different directions. They have decent cheap coffee but don't always have decaf, and seem to think that 'one cream' means 'one cup of cream'.

Date: 2008-04-16 03:43 pm (UTC)What I wanted was a place where I could read the paper without having to buy one, and sit in an environment that didn't remind me of the all the things I had left undone. The coffee was just the way of paying for my use of their space. But, that said, if the coffee is horrible then the enjoyment is greatly decreased.
