It will have been two weeks this coming Monday since I had my second job interview, and I still haven't heard a thing. I decided to send an email today to see what was up (I would have sent it earlier this week, but time ran away from me).

I just got back an automated response that the HR person in charge of my file went on vacation the day after my interview. She won't be back until the 18th. The automated response gave me a contact email for the temporary replacement, and I may try contacting them to see whats up.

Meanwhile I at least have an explanation, of sorts, as to what the delay might be.

It's always good to have at least an explanation for why you haven't heard anything. If you'd sent the e-mail and never gotten a reply to that something might have been fishy. Or the person might have been on vacation without setting an out-of-office auto reply. Or any of a number of other things.

Far better to know that the person simply isn't there.

Plus, if you made it to the second interview I'd say that the chances of you getting the job are pretty good and it'd be weird if they just started ignoring you at this stage.

*fingers crossed*

Sending that e-mail was a good thing to do, tactically. It means that you're still interested in the position. That way when she gets back from vacation she'll come in to a note from you and be reminded of your existence.
