Not a Good Sign.

LiveJournal has removed the option to create a free ad-free account. From now on you can only create an ad-supported or a paid account. "Justification" Here. Note that there still has not been an official announcement of this. I think they were hoping no one would notice. Cretins.

I've been resisting believing that LJ was going down hill, and had pretty much persuaded myself to get a paid account once I could afford it again. Now I'm seriously rethinking that. I may just have to find another site for my journal.

When I had a paid account, it wasn't for the features; I wanted to support something that I believed in. I let it lapse in the early 6A era because I was suspicious of the changes and corporate attitude. I regained much hope when SUP announced a more transparent policy-making structure, but this has just blown it out of the water. I can't imagine any feature they could add that would convince me to pay again.

yeah I have been thinking that as well. I do have a paid account until november but I would hate to go back to a free account and be spammed out with the adds, but woudl hate also to have to pay.

Besides there is less and less friends page to read ( duh I have been posting ess and less as well... )

Well your account already exists, so you could switch back to the no-ad account if you really wanted. It's only new accounts that have to choose between ads and paying. That said, now might be the time to start pondering exit strategies.

insanejournal seems to be accepting LJ refugees. Sign up before someone else takes your name! I think there's even a way to back up your livejournal and upload it to insanejournal. Anyone know what it is?

Thank you for the heads up. I played tried out the Plus Account, but the only thing I found useful was the extra icons. I have switched back to a free account.
