So, on Tuesday, I went over to [livejournal.com profile] sfries place to celebrate my birthday. Yes, my birthday was actually last November, but we only now got around to it. Back then she promised to have me over for a drink in celebration of the day, and then a large number of postponements happened.

In the end she even ended up double booked on last Tuesday, but her other plans got canceled due to her friend having a migraine, so we finally got together. The plan was to just go over to her place for around 5:00 pm, have a few drinks and supper, and then head home around 8:00 ish because there was a curling championship on, and she's a fanatic, while I don't much care for it.

Plans, of course, never survive contact with the enemy, and I didn't actually get home from the 3 hour date until after just after midnight Thursday morning.

It started off simply enough. When I got there the previous round of the Curling thing (The 'Tournament of Hearts' IIRC) hadn't yet ended, so I sat down to watch curling with her for 30 minutes.

Around then I noticed I had a phone message, so I excused myself and went to check it out. It turned out it was [livejournal.com profile] azrhey inviting me over for Sushi supper. It seems she and [livejournal.com profile] tygrbabe had been practicing the art and there was now an abundance of the stuff that needed eating. Since I was already busy, we made plans for the next evening instead.

I then rejoined [livejournal.com profile] sfries and we opened the first bottle of the evening. We spent the next couple of hours chatting and catching up on old times. A lot has been going on in her life since I saw her last, so we had plenty of catching up to do. Around 7:00 is we finally got around to ordering out for Chinese food and Sandy headed out to buy a second bottle of wine at the Dep, so we would have something to drink with the meal.

She returned with two bottles of wine, which turned out to be foresight on her part, as we had already started the third bottle by the time the food arrived. The food was quite good, although I must admit that I was fairly drunk at that point, so I didn't appreciate it as much as I might have. In retrospect I really should have accepted Sandy's offer to make some appetizers but who knew the food would take over an hour to arrive?

In fact, we didn't get to eat until the 8:00 pm round of the tournament had already started, so we sat down to watch it. By that point I was feeling mellow enough that I didn't even mind that it was Curling. Sandy did her best to explain the rules, but I must confess to still being fuzzy on the subject.

We finished the food (Well, as much as we could eat. Sandy had ordered enough for four people, it turned out) and the last bottle of wine, and so Sandy broke out the Vodka. Oy.

We spent the rest of the night drinking Vodka and seven-up, and its all kind of blurry. I do remember [livejournal.com profile] taxlady calling around 11:00 asking where I was, and telling me I might as well sleep over, as I was in no condition to try to navigate home. Then there was the point around 3:00 am when Sandy decided she wanted to try trimming my beard. No matter how drunk I was, there's damn few folks on this planet that I'd let try drunken barbery upon me, but it seems Sandy is one of them. It didn't turn out that badly either.

We finally crashed around 5:00 am, with Sandy insisting upon sleeping on her futon-couch and me taking her bed. Although I had been drinking a fair amount of water from 4:00 am on, I woke around 8:00 am bone dry and with a massive hangover. I took some headache pills, chugged a vast amount of water and fell asleep again. I ended up waking every couple of hours to go to the bathroom, and drink more water until I finally woke for good around noon on Wednesday, feeling quite good, but with a bit of a queasy tummy.

I went into the kitchen to find some way of making coffee (I failed) and saw that the two of us had all but polished off the large bottle of Vodka we were drinking from, so I strongly suspect that evening now holds the record of the most alcohol I have ever consumed at one time. I then sat around petting the numerous cats that demanded attention while I waited for Sandy to wake up.

In the end it was quarter past one when I went into the living room to nudge her, as she was showing no signs of waking. She had slept like a log since she hit the sack, and didn't even have a hangover. I guess her tolerance is a fair bit higher than mine. She then took me out to breakfast at Picasso's and dropped me off at [livejournal.com profile] azrhey's place, as Sandy had work she had to do.

When I got there, [livejournal.com profile] azrhey was watching 'Spooks' on her laptop, and I used her shower, as I hadn't had one yet. After that we watched 'Spooks' together, and I drank some amarula which I didn't have the willpower to say 'No' to, despite my liver threatening to sue for divorce. Spooks, BTW, is a not-bad British spy series that I had never heard of before.

When [livejournal.com profile] pphaneuf got there around 7:30, I was feeling fairly exhausted because of the broken sleep and drinking of the night before. The three of us then finished off the sushi (which was really tasty) and a bottle of wine, but I manfully stuck to one small glass full. (and another amarula as a chaser. I really like that stuff.)

We then sat down to play Munchkin, stopping only long enough to head onto the roof around 10:00 pm to look at the Lunar Eclipse. They were about as I remember them, plus it was freezing out. We watched for about 30 minutes and saw the moon slowly turn less red, and then headed back down to finish the game (which Pierre won).

At that point, anxious to catch a bus before it became impossible to get home (again) I headed out to the 211 stop and caught the 11:20 bus heading home. [livejournal.com profile] taxlady picked me up in Pointe Claire and I promptly crashed when I got home.

I awoke the next morning in a wonderful mood that lasted the rest of that day, and still hasn't completely faded. So, that's how my 3 hour visit ended up lasting the better part of 31 hours. My estimate was only off by an order of magnitude.

Sounds like you had a fun night! I felt queasy just reading the amount of alcohol you drank. Hehe.

Time spent with friends is so important! Glad to hear you had a good time.
