It is the Morning of the Day.
Dec. 21st, 2007 11:29 amI is awake again after too little sleep (again), but there is much, Much, MUCH still left to be done before the big Solstice dinner tonight. As is usually the case with us, things have gotten slightly out of hand and despite our care to invite only a handful of folks so that we'd easily have room for everyone, we seem to have invited 37% more people than planned. I should stress that this is NOT a problem. We've successfully had more than that over for supper in the past, but it does slightly complicate the logistics of things.
I have been viewing this upcoming dinner with some trepidation, I must admit, because I've been under the weather and haven't been up for doing as much work to help prepare as I normally should.
taxlady has ended up with even more of the preparation burden than is normal (and that's saying something, as she usually does much of the cleaning and all of the cooking). However, looking over the living and dining rooms this morning, its amazing how much we've already gotten done. Although I still plan to do a bunch of cleaning, I wouldn't be too embarrassed to host the party in the space as it is now. Especially when you consider that everyone invited is a close friend, and they've all seen the place in much worse states on previous visits.
So, I now find myself very much looking forward to this evening and its attendant festivities. After all, its all really about getting together with good friends to welcome the end of shortening days, and the concomitant proof that the fimbulwinter is not upon us.
