I'm now sitting in my new office chair. Assembly wasn't too difficult, and the instructions were actually clear. Is is my imagination or are companies actually getting better at creating assemble-yourself stuff?

In any case, this one seems a bit better put together than the last one. Lets hope it lasts.

No chair will last if one leans back on its two back legs ;)

I don't know about you men...E and I have the same leather office chair, bought at the very same time and the arms on his look like they have been through a few wars, while mine looks brand-new.

This matter came up in a recent health & safety talk I got. (The chap had a horror story about a gas lift chair that exploded when they were new enough that only people in HM Stationery Office had them yet, and some large chap was having fun bouncing up and down on his.) Anyway, he mentioned (I don't know how accurately) that the legal requirements for American and German gas lift chair are in the range of two stone heavier than those for the rest of the world. Maybe be worth knowing if true.

Well, it was supposed to be an early case; no doubt the design has improved since then. But allegedly, the shrapnel hit three co-workers, one in the spine (she's never walked since). :-(

...So why not make ones that do? There's a market, right?

Absolutely, but they don't.

I often think of my mother being absolutely horrified as one of my brothers assumed that "thinking position" while sitting on her mahogany dining chairs.

But [livejournal.com profile] swestrup isn't leaning back on two legs of the chair. I don't think I have ever seen him do that. He is leaning back in a chair that tilts and has five legs with castors.
