I should have been asleep a few hours ago, and I'm certainly tired enough, but right now my head is full of ideas and schemes and possibilities. How am I supposed to sleep with all that racket. Normally I would have a few glasses of wine (which I keep around for purely medicinal purposes) to allow me to sleep, but we ran out a couple of days ago. Darn!

Have you tried talking to your doctor about these sleeping problems? While I don't see medicine as a good or longterm solution there might be something that could help you sleep better.

Or you could try a piece of advise I got from the stress coach I've been seeing: make some kind of ritual out of the whole going to bed thing. Something like turning on your bed lamp an hour before you sleep, shake out the covers and so on. The theory behind this is to get some kind of habit or pattern that will help make your body and mind relaxed and ready for sleep... or it may just be a load of dingo's kidneys...
