Jeez..doesn't shock me. I know I had a helluva delivery with my first child because of negligence with my physician. Pays to be as informed as possible and to remind these people that WE pay THEM, and that THEY are not GODS! Hmph!!!
Of course it's higher. The statistics are understated. As Samuel Clemens wrote, "There's three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."
E.g., when I lost my baby due to loss of amniotic fluid, because my membrane ruptured when they did amniocentesis, it wasn't recorded as death caused by amniocentesis. It was recorded as death due to loss of amniotic fluid.
