Hmmm, your memory is obviously much better than mine - then again, it always has been.
I had the best luck / worst luck with hit points - I've had a fighter averaged 9 on 10 over 6 levels, with a 17 con that gave me 72 hit points - a real brute, catching fireballs for fun.
Then again, I've also had a Paladin with average con, have 16 hits at 4 lvl (fragile to say the least.) and an illusionist with average con had 6HP by 4th lvl... sad. Both ended badly.
Fond memories as well.
