Well, its now something like 10:00 am, and I'm awake again. I woke up at something like 9:00 am with a pounding head (not quite a migraine, but bad anyway). So, I managed to make myself a double cafe-au-lait and take a couple of ibuprofens. Things seem to be improving. If I didn't know better I would suspect that its a lingering afteraffect of [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya's party, which was quite fun.

Lets see if I can give a quick recap of my (now blurred) memories.  To start with, [livejournal.com profile] taxlady and I were quite fashionably late. It took my SO forever to get ready. I spent most of the waiting time installing the Sims using the slowest installation script I've ever seen.  It was still doing the install over an hour after I started it. (I still have yet to try it out. More info on the Sims later).

We got to the party around 9:00 pm, along with a bunch of stuff because we planned to sleep over. Folks already there included "K" (who we're trying to get onto LJ), [livejournal.com profile] ravi and his Brother, [livejournal.com profile] enaira, [livejournal.com profile] _sps_, and, of course, our host [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya and her houseguests [livejournal.com profile] nancyrihakova and [livejournal.com profile] somecanuckchick.

When we arrived "K" was already asleep on one of the guest beds, but she woke up not too long after. It seems (to me) that K is so quiet because she's a science geek and is not used to meeting folks like [livejournal.com profile] _sps_ and myself who enjoy talking science stuff. [livejournal.com profile] ravi and his "brother" were a puzzle.  I never did quite figure out if the brother thing was litterally true or not. As far as I can tell they don't share any relatives at all and had never met prior to the party... But maybe that was just my fuzzy impresssion. [livejournal.com profile] enaira was rather subdued the whole evening, but it was still nice to see her again. Some time after we arrived, another guest showed up, namely Erikkkk (we had a long discussion about how his name is spelled, so I'm pretty sure that's correct...).

We all sat around talking, joking and eating utill we noticed that we had missed the whole ball drop in NY thing and it was already the new year. We then broke out the sparkling booze! I had tried to get folks interested in a game of Xxxenophile all evening, but people seemed to have too much energy to expend on other activities to be ready to sit down to a card game. [livejournal.com profile] _sps_ left not too long after, probably because lots of folks just sitting around and drinking isn't really his scene. [livejournal.com profile] enaira also ended up leaving early, due to stupidities of the transit system and the fact that they weren't treating the new year as anything special. BOO STCUM (or whatever they are called now).

Anyway, after folks had left, I did manage to get some people together for a game of Xxxenophile, but it was a bit of a fiasco. Folks were too distracted to hear the rules and too noisy to let me reread them in their entirety. As a result we had to stop several times and figure out what we were doing wrong. On top of that, there were numerous breaks for smokes and trips to the bathroom and general slowness on everyone's part from too much drinking and joking about. We played until about 6:30 am and then just decided to declare Erikkkk the winner since he had the most points (72, I think).

I would also be amiss if I did not point out that during the game [livejournal.com profile] nancyrihakova, as demure and elegant as usual, kept our wine glasses full and was thoroughly scandalized (I'm told she blushes really well, but my red vision is so bad that I couldn't tell :-/ ) by the outrageous goings on of [livejournal.com profile] somecanuckchick, who was her usual party-animal self. Photos will undoubtedly be published as soon as we can get [livejournal.com profile] somecanuckchick drunk enough again to sign the release forms.

I should also mention that by prodigious and secret maneuvers which apparantly including temporarily shifting the location of Cambodia, [livejournal.com profile] azrhey managed to show up for 3 or 4 hours, while simultaneously remaining at work and maning the phone lines... During the brief interval that we got to see her, [livejournal.com profile] taxlady and I called dibs on her for her upcoming birthday, and possibly one or more days on either side. Now we'll have to figure out exactly what will be done on said birthday. Most likely other folks will be invited over, but plans have yet to be made.

Around 7:30 am, my SO and I retired to one of the guest rooms while others found spots of their own to curl up in. When I got up around 10:30 am for a call of nature, the whole place was filled with the quiet sounds of peaceful sleep. (Unlike while I was asleep, when the place was rocked by the gentle sounds of my snores, which one guest mistook for an earthquake...)

Around 12:30, [livejournal.com profile] taxlady and I got up and drank a few large mugs of coffee, thanked [livejournal.com profile] nancyrihakova, "K" and [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya for a lovely time and made our departure. (Its too bad Denzo was feeling poorly. Thats not good. GET WELL SOON DENIZ!!!!!).

We left at 2:00 pm, which was later than planned but due to a complete absense of traffic, we arrived at the movie theatre for LOTR:ROTK on schedule. This time we were sufficently early, and had picked the right day, so we didn't end up front row center again, staring up into hobbit nostrils for 2 hours plus...  The movie was good and afterwards we ended up with a friend at Chenoys (everything else seeming to be closed) for supper. Then we went home and collapsed. All in all, it was not the worst way to end one new year and start another, and was MUCH better than the year (was it 1984?) that a friend and I toasted with ginger-ale and waved checkers to herald in the new year...

Oh, one last memory of importance: Snuggles with good friends are most welcome and fun!

K is so quiet because she is shy with relatively unfamiliar people in groups of greater than about 3. She didn't really know the level of science knowledge of the others present. She tends to sleep alot having just escaped the world of advertising.
(Thanks for noticing :) )
