I find oat meal, perhaps followed by some fresh baked bread, to be an excellent way to begin a day... which makes it a bit strange that I so often begin with various caffeinated drinks...
While I rather enjoy oatmeal (especially in winter) and I always love fresh baked bread, neither one is really allowed on my diet. Way too high carb.
So, what I just ate was a large plate of various cheeses and some meatballs. Mainly because that was quick. I was sooo starving!
What I like to eat (and am allowed) for breakfast is bacon, eggs and sausage. When I was in Germany years ago I also rather got used to the 'continental' breakfasts they had which were essentially hot hard-boiled eggs, assorted cold cuts and assorted cheeses.
BTW, when I was in Copenhagen for a month, I ignored my diet completely. I had pastry for breakfast most days one week (until I put my foot down and told my wife and her sister that I was getting sugar overload -- they kept buying more), and the rest of the time I either ate out or had the danish rye with random cold cuts and cheeses.
I also made a point of trying to find traditional danish dishes to eat.
I never gained a pound (not that I lost any either), but that may also have been partly because we walked almost everywhere.
This sort of supports my claim that it's not simply a matter of what you eat - it's the entire life style (food, beverages, exercise, work, hobbies and so on) that needs to be well-balanced.
During my hiking trip in Norway I ate a LOT of high-carb, high-fat foot and even ate so much that I got a LOT of protein as well. But walking 20-25km per day and not eating candy or drinking sodas during the day made me loose a few kgs in a week.

Everything is connected/related in these matters.
