I try not to jump on meme bandwagons, but here's one that everyone else is doing, so I thought I would too:

I've often been favorably impressed by the strength of your convictions. I never said anything at the time, but I was very impressed when you said you were willing to take a vow of poverty while running for public office -- something I cannot imagine your typical politician ever willingly doing.

Thanks! But I was actually trying to say that I would not take any government salary if elected. I'd accept voluntary contributions if I could arrange a blind method of doing so, to prevent influence or appearance of influence. I'd put any significant investments in blind trusts, as well, as I've heard is standard practice. Back in the seventies or eighties I heard of a Western pastor who was a long-term MP and always took only a minimal government salary to live on, and donated the rest to charity.
