You know that thing that always happens? You're starting off bright and early Monday morning with a whole bunch of ambitious plans for the week and before you can even get started, the cat spontaneously combusts. You're in the middle that when the corn bread holds a coup and beheads the broccoli and it all just goes downhill from there. The next thing you know its Friday evening, the week is shot, and you never did get around to dousing the cat, so its sort of laying there smouldering sullenly at you.

That's sort of how I feel about the last 3 years, and I have a terrible suspicion that by the time I'm sixty I'll be able to look back on whole decades that went that wrong in just that manner.

I hate it when that happens. I don't know how many times I've told mine that you can't safely operate matches and cigarette lighters without opposable thumbs. And then the vet gets all sanctimonious when you try to explain that it wasn't you, it's the cat that's the pyro...

Perspecive, dude, perspective. Whenever I start to feel this way I kick myself in the butt and remind myself of all the things I've accomplished in the past two years (getting married, joining a band, going back to school, writing two novels, etc...) Think on it for a bit and you'll come up with your own list. Here, I'll start you off: How much weight have you lost?

I don't know anymore. There was a time when I had a healthy amount of arrogance in my makeup. When someone commented me on my work I assumed it was well deserved.

These days I've caught myself wondering what their ulterior motive is. I can't say its a mindset that I like.
