85 Gig picture of Canada.

A 30m resolution mosic Landsat image of most of Canada will be available here shortly. They've gone and jpeged it down to 3.2 GB, so I'm sure they've lost some details. Meanwhile, they have a few smaller-resolution versions of the same thing ready for download. For instance here's montreal:



Which you can click on for a better view. If you go to the site you'll see that some far northern bits of Canada are missing, due to being outside of Landsat's imaging area.

*was about to post snarky comment like 'it's aboot time!', then realized you're *IN* Canada. *slaps forehead*. Sorry.

I wish I had enough storage space to get that image in full res, though. I'd take a look and see where they were mining for diamonds up in the Yukon..

I recently discovered that my city has GIS tools online that, among other things, allow one to grab satellite imagery of one's house at a pretty decent resolution. I've been having a lot of fun with that.
